Many providers of UK holidays for families have excelled in recent years with the quality and value of the accommodation and facilities they offer. With 2012 now here we can look forward to a packed year of cultural, sporting, Royal events and celebrations.

We’ve listed many ideas here and would welcome your favourites too. Many of the concerns that led to families holidaying nearer to home look set to remain. With many people concerned about job security and the ongoing economic situation according to a survey carried out by Visit England. More people think that the situation will get worse before we see signs of an improvement.

The trend to take a UK family holiday is set to remain strong with many letting agents, self catering and holiday parks and resorts reporting favourable bookings already for 2012. Online bookings are increasing at a rapid rate – figures show we book two thirds of our UK holidays in advance and of these 60% are booked online. Many families looking to find a main holiday in the UK sited their main reason as the ‘credit crunch’. Of course not everyone replaced their foreign holiday with a UK holiday but many did extra holidays and days out in the UK. A number of reasons were given for this from family gatherings such as weddings, trying somewhere new in the UK, it was easy to arrange at the last minute, less hassle than going abroad, personal recommendations and of course money. Some UK holidaymakers enjoyed revisiting places they had last been to in childhood.

Family Camping Caravan, camping and glamping in fact anything to do with the great outdoors have been hugely popular too. How about touring the UK in a fabulous motorhome or experience the fun and novelty of a VW camper van?
